What 5:00 PM looks like around here.

This evening I was feeding Lola while talking to my Sister on the phone and I had to apologize for all the chaos happening on my side of the line. I'm sure she could hardly hear me but I was telling her how Ivy had decided to not nap today (surprise, surprise) and dinner wasn't started yet and yes, there was a wet diaper at my feet on the ground (which means a naked unpotty-trained toddler running around creating even more messes while yelling, "WAAKE UP LOOLA!" and insisting to listen to the 'Cupid Shuffle' on repeat), all while multiple boxes of tiny toys and games were being dumped everywhere. She mentioned she didn't really believe me, as I was a bit of a clean freak growing up, so Shan-- here is your proof. I think the days of visible floors and beds that look like they were made by hotel maids are over. I had a good run with the whole "keeping a clean space" bit, but that time is unfortunately long gone. If we're going to be really honest, it's a total crap-storm over here by 5:00 PM and there's not much I can do to stop it. I've accepted and embraced it, so consider this a fair warning: if you ever come to our house for dinner, expect delays and avoid curious wet spots on any surface. You will eventually get fed and you will for sure be served a dessert, though. So in the end, isn't that what really matters in life? (Please say yes so I don't have to go pick up a million squinkies and silly bands!)

A big fat YES! haha Dinner wasn't served until 7PM tonight. Toys stay on the floor overnight and dishes in the sink too. :) It's a good life.

I guarantee every other spot in your house is spotless. I am not entirely fooled. It looks like you girls are happy and having fun over there and that is what really matters.

Shell, no one wishes that were true more than me, I'm actually surprised you can't smell my dishes from your house though. :(

ha! okay okay i believe you. but at least it's a mess made by cute little ivy.

i love lo's little feets peeking at the bottom of this picture.

and despite the chaos, i always wish i was eating dinner at your house because your food is always better than mine (and i love that i can always count on dessert over there too;)

oh Im so happy I'm not alone in this, only our house looks like this till 11:00 pm until I finally get my boys to STAY in their beds long enough to have them crash for the night!
I wish us sisters could get together and let all the kids make messes while we chatted our hearts out!

Oh I am so glad you postet this! Haha - everything always looks so perfect in your pictures! I started feeling like a bad housewife already! ;D
My almost 17month old babygirl keeps me running through the house all day long - I really have to get more relaxed about this chaos - especially now, that we are expecting number two these days :D
Big thank you for sharing!

I love the above photo. I am still a good few years from having any children of my own, but I know that when I do I could struggle with being frustrated by not being able to keep everything organized in the home while caring for my babies. Thank you for your honesty and for being a reminder that even if I can't keep everything as organized as I'd like, that memories can still be made and a good attitude can still be had. :)
